Campus of Vienna University
of Economics and Business
a milestone in university building architecture
The Vienna University of Economics and Business campus, which was completed in 2013, was designed to create optimum conditions for study, teaching and research at the largest economics and business university in the EU. The declared goal was to develop an environment that promotes productivity and communication.
The nine hectare site between the trade fair exhibition grounds and the Vienna Prater was developed based on a master plan by Laura Spinadel, BUSarchitektur.
International architectural firms planned six buildings of outstanding architectural quality and expression, which despite their formal diversity compose a harmonious ensemble and reflect the university's high intercultural standards and responsibility in terms of business and society. Ecological, economic and social aspects have been implemented in sustainable planning of the buildings and the outdoor spaces.
The campus has proven highly fit for purpose in terms of teaching and research as well as its structural concept and can be regarded as a milestone in university building architecture.
However, the university thrives not only on the quality of its buildings and attractive outdoor space, but also on its proximity to the Prater with its good transport infrastructure, numerous recreational areas, restaurants and sports facilities.
The result is a lively district forming a multifaceted centre of attraction that enhances the entire urban environment.
